We can see Paul is a large fellow - just compare the size of his head to Jacki's. His hand next to Jacki's tells the same story. It's not immediately apparent, but we can see Jacki's arm is quite long.

Paul is 'normal.' He's just a large fellow. He won't go into the subway because he has to stoop through the doors for the privilege of bumping his head on the bars inside.

Jacki has a condition called "Marfan's Syndrome." It is a genetic problem that results in the long bones growing out of proportion with the rest of the body. As we can see, Jacki has a regular size face and hands. She is also close to Paul's height, because her legs are very long.

Marfan's produces a very distinctive 'look' in its victims: long legs, long arms, very tall person with regular size face, head, hands.

The insidious results of Marfan's are internal. The connective tissue that makes up so much of the body grows at normal rate. In Jacki's case this meant a normal aorta stretched a little too tight to feed blood to a normal length circulatory system feeding an extraordinarily long body. The consequences meant a breakdown of the aorta, and unbelievable surgery to repair it, complete with incisions measured in feet.

Sometimes the results become quite public; the deaths of young basketball players have brought some attention to this disease.

Jacki has become quite outspoken on the subject of Marfan's Syndrome, and even approaches strangers on occasion if she sees a familiar body style.
